iPhone- How To Use Share Screen Feature On iPhone: A Step-by-Step Guide

⮞ How screen sharing work ?

Screen sharing works by capturing your device’s display in real time and transmitting it over the internet so others can view it. The software records your screen, compresses the video using codecs like H.264 to reduce data size, and sends it through secure network protocols such as WebRTC. On the receiver’s side, the stream is decoded and displayed instantly. Most apps, like Zoom or Google Meet, allow users to share an entire screen or a specific window. Screen sharing is encrypted for privacy and optimized to maintain smooth performance even on limited bandwidth connections.

⮞ How Screen Sharing on iPhone Works :

Screen sharing on an iPhone allows users to display their screen content in real time during video calls, online meetings, or presentations. When you enable screen sharing, iOS captures everything visible on your screen — apps, photos, or web pages — and compresses it into a live video stream using advanced encoding technology. This stream is securely transmitted over the internet through protocols like WebRTC. The receiver’s device decodes the stream and displays it instantly. Apple ensures privacy with permissions and encryption, so only authorized participants can view your screen. It’s a seamless, secure way to collaborate or troubleshoot remotely.

1. Share Screen via AirPlay (To a TV or Mac) :

This method, called Screen Mirroring, lets you display everything on your iPhone screen wirelessly onto a compatible device like an Apple TV, an AirPlay-compatible Smart TV, or a Mac.

Prerequisites:

  • Your iPhone and the target display (TV/Mac) must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • The target display must be AirPlay-compatible (e.g., Apple TV, certain Samsung, LG, Sony, Vizio smart TVs, or a Mac running a recent macOS version).

Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. Open Control Center

  • iPhone with Face ID (X or later): Swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen.
  • iPhone with Home button (8 or earlier): Swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen.

      2. Tap Screen Mirroring

  • Look for the icon with two overlapping rectangles. Tap it.

      3. Select the Target Device

  • A list of available AirPlay devices on your network will appear.
  • Tap the name of your Apple TV, Smart TV, or Mac.

      4.  Enter Passcode (If Prompted)

  • If a four-digit AirPlay passcode appears on your TV/Mac screen, enter it on your iPhone.
  • Your iPhone screen should now be mirrored on the larger display.
      5.  Stop Mirroring
  • Open the Control Center again.
  • Tap the Screen Mirroring button.
  • Tap Stop Mirroring from the list.

2. Share Screen via FaceTime (To Another Person)

This method uses Apple's SharePlay feature within a FaceTime call, allowing you to show the other person exactly what is on your screen. This is ideal for troubleshooting or collaborative viewing.

Prerequisites:

  • You must be on a FaceTime video or audio call.
  • All participants need an iPhone, iPad, or Mac running a recent version of iOS/iPadOS/macOS that supports SharePlay.

Step-by-Step Guide:

1.  Start or Join a FaceTime Call
  • Open the FaceTime app and start a call with the person or group you want to share with.
2. Access SharePlay Controls
  • Once the call is connected, tap on the screen to show the controls.
  • Look for the Share Content button (it often looks like a rectangle with a person icon). Tap it.
3 Initiate Screen Sharing
  • Tap Share My Screen.
  • A countdown (3-2-1) will appear, and then your entire screen will be visible to the other person(s) on the call.
4Navigate Your Phone
  • Minimize the FaceTime window (it will shrink to a small tile) and open any app or webpage you want to share. The other person will see it in real-time.
  • While sharing, a purple/orange background will indicate the call is active and your screen is being broadcast.
5Stop Sharing
  • Tap the FaceTime tile to bring up the controls, or look for the Stop Sharing button at the top of the screen and tap it.
  • Alternatively, simply end the FaceTime call.
